Privacy policy

Effective date: 24 October 2026.

This page explains what Abi stores, what leaves your phone, and what it never does. Updates appear here with a new effective date.

Who controls this app

Jesse Twum-Boafo controls Abi, as a private individual, for his own family. Abi is not a company product.

Who can see your record

Only the two parents in the household can see the baby's record. Abi shares it with no one else.

What Abi stores, and where

Abi stores the household's record (feeds, sleep, nappies and daily care) in a Supabase database project hosted in London (Amazon's eu-west-2 region). Each phone also keeps its own copy.

What leaves your phone, and when

Most of what a parent records stays inside the family's own database project, except to sync between the two parents' phones.

Sorting free words. When a parent speaks or types a free-word entry, Abi may send those words to an AI provider (Anthropic or Google Gemini) to work out what it means. This happens only if that parent has entered their own key for that provider, stored on their own phone, and only after consent on a one-time screen. With no key, free words are not sent anywhere. They wait until sorted by hand or a key is added.

A third provider, Jev, is planned, using one key Jesse holds on Abi's own server, not a key on a parent's phone. Jev has not yet sorted a real entry. This page gets a new date when a new provider starts.

Google Calendar (planned). Designed, not yet built. Once it ships, a parent will connect their own Google account, and Abi will create one calendar there, called "Baby", with one event for each vaccination on the public schedule, due or past due: its name, dose, due date, and given date once given. It will never hold the baby's name, any entry's words, or any other profile fact. Anyone who can see that calendar will work out the baby's date of birth from the dates. Turning the calendar off, or leaving the household, will delete it. This page gets a new date when the feature ships.

What Abi never does

How to export, erase, leave or delete

A parent will be able to export the whole record from their phone at any time, through the phone's own share sheet. A parent will be able to erase a single entry, leave the household, or delete their own account. Deleting the whole household's record will need both parents to agree, while both are active members.

Children's data

The baby has no account and cannot act for themselves. Their parents hold and control their record, as household members.

The lawful basis, in plain words

Abi is designed to follow South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), which governs personal information, including health information. This is a statement of design intent, not a legal opinion. Jesse may replace this section with a lawyer's text.

Google user data

Abi's use of your Google account information follows Google's own user data policy, whether or not Google has verified Abi.

This site

These pages are served by Netlify, which keeps ordinary web server logs and adds one small script of its own to each page. Abi itself adds no analytics.
